Predator Calls

Put ‘em on the stretcher!

Text Box: hunting tips:

-Set up so that you can see down-wind about 200 yards. In heavy cover, try placing a shooter down wind of the caller about 50 yards.

-Use the terrain to your advantage when
approaching your calling stand. Make sure the critters don't see you. Don't silhouette yourself on a ridge. It will prove to be very helpful to walk in low lying areas, stay along tree lines, or walk in creek beds.

-Be quiet on the way to your stand. Don't slam truck doors. If you cross fences be aware of squeaking wires. When you're walking in crunchy snow don't get too close to where the predators may be lurking. Call them to you instead.

-Know how to shoot your gun. Predators are not large animals, even coyotes are made up of a lot of hair. Practice with your rifle and know where the bullet will hit at various ranges and in different winds.

-Get out and call. I don't know of many people that shoot coyotes from their
living rooms. Predators can be called in at any time of the day. In many states, coyotes can be called through out the year.

-Pay attention while
calling. Constantly check your surroundings. Many
predators are called in and never seen because hunters weren't looking for them. Analyze each brush pile, rock, or bush. You may see a critter hiding by them.

Over the years, hundreds of predators have been taken by hunters using our calls.  These calls are one piece so they don’t fall apart in the field.  We make them from wood because it produces a more realistic sound and helps prevent calls from freezing up when the weather turns nasty.

The stainless-steel reeds that we use are of the highest quality and are used by many large companies such as Big River, Sceery, Lohman, Circe, Dan Thompson Game Calls, Buck Gardner Calls, and many others.

The difference between our calls and theirs' is that ours look great. Other call makers products sound pretty good, but are mass-produced. The calls we make sound great and by giving each call individual attention, we make them look good enough to pass on to your little hunting buddies.

Predator Coaxer - $15.00

This is a short-range finishing call.  We normally use it as a squeaker, but it will also make soft, higher pitched squeals. It is just what you need to get predators, especially red fox, to come those extra few steps or walk out from behind a bush or tree. This call is fool proof. If you can breath, you can make noise with it.

Our medium range predator call is just that. It is a small animal distress call that produces a sweet, raspy sound that will definitely get the attention of predators. The best part is you don't have to blow hard to make it work properly. This is probably our most popular call. It works great on calm days, in the crepuscular periods of the day, and especially at night (be sure to check local regulations).  Since it’s a medium range call, you'll need to make your stands a little closer together on windy days.

Medium Range Predator - $20.00

Our medium range double reed does everything the medium range does but with a higher pitch.  Bobcat hunters have said this is one of their favorites.  It also provides you with a little bit different sound than a lot of other calls on the market.  We’ve found this call to be especially effective early in the fall.  The young fox and ’yotes seem to respond to it very well.  A double reed call takes a little bit more air than the single reeds but is still easy to use.

Medium Range Double-Reed Predator - $20.00

Our Long Range Predator call is a screamer and one of our favorites. If you want to cover large areas during your stands, or call critters on windy days, this is what you need. It is a small animal distress call that is semi-raspy and will make your ears ring (especially in the house, just ask my wife). It will reach predators that are way out there. Again, you don't have to blow hard to get that perfect sound. This call is also useful in especially wide open areas or after snow has covered all of the tree limbs (snow muffles sound) in brushy areas. We use this call a lot late in the season when the predator population has gone down and we need sound to reach out a little further to find a critter.

Long Range Predator - $20.00

Long Range Double-Reed Predator - $20.00

The Long Range Double Reed does all the things that the Long Range call does. This call is fairly loud and quite a bit higher pitched than the Long Range call. It is also a small animal distress call. Although this call is still really easy to blow, it does take a little bit more air to produce sound that makes coyotes come on the run. High pitched sounds carry farther. If you think that predators aren't hearing you, or are used to hearing the sounds you make, pick up one of these calls and heat up your barrel.

“Woody” - $20.00

With a mylar and stainless steel reed assembly, this call is different than any of our other predator calls.  It is a loud high pitched woodpecker distress call.  We can’t hunt bobcats yet here in Iowa but some of our customers say this is call to buy if you want to kill a big tom.  Interestingly enough, this is the only call any of the field staff have called in bocats with here in Iowa.  If you’ve never tried a bird distress for coyotes it is just different enough to bring in critters you’ve already educated.  “Woody” will also make great high pitched small animal distress squeals making it even more versatile.

This is an instructional CD that we put together. It is just under 27 minutes long. After listening to the CD, you will have learned a little bit about the basics of predator calling such as scouting, setting up, guns, fur care, and how to make the sounds needed to kill critters. It is focused on the distress calls.  This cd is

probably most useful to the beginning caller, but seasoned hunters may pick something up to help them in the pursuit of predators as well.

Instructional Cd -  $5.00

Loess Hills Howler - $30.00

A lot of predator hunters have taken to the field in recent years.  Some have been very successful, others have educated a lot of critters, especially coyotes.  Howling can add a whole different approach to your calling arsenal.  It is very effective through out the entire year.  By learning to use a howler you’ll be able to hit that territorial nerve or better yet, take advantage of a coyote’s instinct to mate.  You can be sure that howling will get you more shots at ‘yotes.

We use a Dan Thompson reed that has proven to be the best ever made.  With a little practice, you will be able to make all of the sounds in the coyote vocabulary including great male, female, and pup howls.  Wounded dog sounds are really easy to make, and with a little effort you can make fawn bleats, jackrabbit sounds, and woodpecker sounds. Also, if you are a turkey hunter, this call will be a great asset to  you when you’re trying to locate gobblers.
